Jack Sadler - Terry Dolan Series
Jack Sadler, 15yrs (Wheelbase /Gore/ Cannondale) seized the final victor's spoils in the prestigious Terry Dolan series in Southport at the weekend.
The series, open to all youth riders from around the country attracts some of the best future Olympic talent in the UK. The event, staged over three weeks comprises of two races each week, a long distance race and a handicap event based on the outcome of the first race. Points are awarded to the first six in each race.
Jack had stiff competition from some of the Nations most talented athletes, most of whom have raced on the velodrome in Manchester over the winter. He struggled in the early races, where the race fitness of the others shone through. Each week Jack persevered and clawed back the fitness; working especially hard during training in the week to hone the specific skills and sharpness required for the lung busting efforts.
Going into the last weekend of racing Jack was lying second to Wigan's Chris Lawless ({Sportscity). Jack rode intelligently in both races, using the other riders to shelter him from the howling North Sea wind. A group of four, including Jack lapped the main field with Jack unleashing his trademark `Ulverston Arrow` sprint in the last 100 meters to take an emphatic victory in both of the last two stages and seal the overall win.
Jack took home the spoils of victory, resplendent in his yellow race winner's jersey and the proud new owner of a track frame.
Jack would like to thank Toby and all the Wheelbase staff and Geoff , Neil and all at the Herbalife/Wheelbase team for their continued support. Jack is now in a new preparation stage for the three day Isle of Man youth tour at the end of April. |
